YOU’RE ENGAGED! CONGRATULATIONS!!
Soooo many exciting things are headed your way: telling the world about your news, wedding planning, dress shopping, asking your wedding party to stand up with you, and engagement photos. As a couples and wedding photographer, the importance of engagement photos is at the top of my priority list. I love getting to capture such special moments for you. Here’s a quick guide to help you best prepare for the best photos ever!
No, I’m not just adding this because it’s my job, haha. Picking a photographer is so important. AND, I might not be the photographer for you! When picking a photographer, I recommend doing some social. media research. What I mean by that is doing a hashtag search and checking out what pops up. Since I live near Grand Rapids, MI, I would search something like #grandrapidsengagementphotos or #westmichiganengagementphotographer. Then, without even diving into the profiles, scroll through the images you see. Find the top images that stand out to you! (maybe 5-7). Then, proceed with the profile dive! This will usually lead you to websites where you can find more about pricing, the photographer’s personality, and more gallery examples.
Outfits can feel like a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be! Continue with your profile deep dive after you have found the photographer for you: what types of outfits do the couples in their photos wear? What colors? What fabrics? If an outfit you want to wear comes to mind, chances are, you should go for it! If you feel stuck, reach out to your photographer. I offer a free outfit guide to all my clients to aide in this process!
I know what you’re thinking, “Noooo not the corny props, Olivia!!” But trust me on this one. I’m talking about FUN props like champagne, trendy sunglasses, or a vintage car. The options are endless! I offer a free bottle of champagne for the cool champagne pop photos we all love with one of my wedding packages! Contact me to hear more!
The BEST photos are the ones that feel like YOU! And really, the best way to feel like you is to enjoy your experience. I encourage you to make a night (or heck, a whole day) out of your photos! Cook breakfast together, dance around the kitchen, compliment eachother as you get ready, go out to dinner, and end your night with a golden hour photoshoot. It doesn’t have to be stiff: it can be filled with laughter, fun, and you might even forget the camera is there.
You’re in a wild season of stress and preparation, and I’ve been there. Let’s make engagement photos the most fun and easiest part of it ALL!
